Wedding Day Do Overs?

Anyone who has ever been married, coordinated a wedding, photographed, or DJ’d a wedding already knows. Plans shmans. The day goes how the day goes, and the most important thing you can do is be flexible.

But what about the schedule? What schedule? Schedules for weddings are merely a loose guideline, honestly.

The bride is ready when the bride is ready.

The ceremony starts when the ceremony starts.

The food is ready when the food is ready.

And the more people in the wedding party means more variables.

Add an open bar? You open a whole new list of opportunities for deviation from the schedule.

And that’s okay. Lean in. Be flexible.

Some say it’s the biggest day of your life, there is no do over, everything needs to be perfect. And to a degree, they may have a point. No do overs on the first dance. No do overs on cutting the cake. No do overs on the vows for at least 5 years when maybe you decide to renew your vows.

As a photographer though, aside from key moments like the ceremony, first dances, cake cutting, the first look, there is the possibility of do overs. And honestly if you have the budget… anything is possible.

I had a bride reach out to me recently to see if I could help her capture a few images. Her photographer does not live in the area, so unfortunately wasn’t available to help. The day was crazy like most wedding days, behind schedule, and a few shots got overlooked. Nothing critical, just shots in hind sight the bride really wished she had captured.

This was a first for me, and I do love a good challenge so of course I’m in.

We met at the venue where the wedding was held, and the bride showed up wedding ready. Full dress, hair, make up, and ready to capture the moment. The do over. We spent the next hour moving about the venue capturing some photos that filled in the gaps, and capturing some that were more in this moment.

Moral of the story, if you feel like there was something you missed, make it happen. Some moments can never be recreated, and some moments need to be recreated.
